چکیده

Objective: To determine the frequency of complications microvascular decompression for patients with trigeminal neuralgia undergoing surgical decompression. Materials and Methods: A descriptive case study was carried out in Neurosurgery Unit 1, Lahore General Hospital. The included 80 who fulfilled inclusion criteria. Informed consent obtained possible outcomes surgery were explained beforehand to patients. Demographic details noted. Surgical site infection, CSF leak, Facial numbness, palsy, Hearing impairment, Postoperative hematoma as assessed. presence recorded. Data stratified age gender from. Chi-square used a statistical test, taking p-value ?0.05 level significance. Results: mean 40.8 ± 11.7 years. Overall reported 21 (26.3%) Distribution follows; infection 2 (9.5%), leak (19.0%), facial palsy 5 (23.8%), numbness 9 (42.9%), hearing impairment (9.5%) post-operative (23.8%). Conclusion: Microvascular (MVD) is recommended neurosurgical procedure medically refractory pain if there no contraindication surgery. can be minimized by meticulous resulting adequate tissue respect. Another means get better long-lasting results fewer using an autologous muscle graft.

Microvascular Decompression for Trigeminal Neuralgia.

BACKGROUND Trigeminal Neuralgia (TGN) is the most frequently diagnosed type of facial pain. In idiopathic type of TGN it is caused by the neuro-vascular conflict involving trigeminal nerve. Microvascular decompression (MVD) aims at addressing this basic pathology in the idiopathic type of TGN. This study was conducted to determine the outcome and complications of patients with idiopathic TGN un...

Microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia.

Eleven patients with intractable trigeminal neuralgia were treated by posterior fossa microvascular decompression. Complete pain relief was achieved in 7 patients (63.3%). Partial relief of symptoms was noted in 3 patients (27%). There was no operative mortality. Two patients developed transient lower cranial nerve palsies whereas one patient developed a CSF leak, requiring treatment by lumbar ...

Microvascular decompression surgery for trigeminal neuralgia.

Long-term follow-up data were analyzed to evaluate the surgical results of microvascular decompression (MVD). Among 1,324 patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TGN), who underwent MVD between 1976 and 2000, a consecutive 281 patients were followed and studied for 5-20 years as of the year of 1997. When the data were analyzed and compared in two groups (A: 1976-1986, B: 1987-1991), the postoperati...
